Despite Tuesday’s Orioles-Yankees game ending in an astounding 14-5 win for the birds, center-fielder Adam Jones managed to have his mood soured by a fan who interrupted play by running onto the field at Yankee Stadium. The frequently candid Jones had harsh words for the trespasser after the game.

“I think it’s idiotic for people to run on the field and I think the punishment needs to be a lot harsher and they should let us have a shot to kick them with our metal spikes on, ’cause it’s stupid,” he said. “And I remember a couple of years ago, one dude broke his ankle in Baltimore. I was laughing at him. I wish he shattered his femur.”

WJZ reported that the remarks are “under investigation.” (What, are they going to dust his statement for prints?) Jones later simultaneously doubled down and backed off. He said he wouldn’t take back his remarks whatever the disciplinary consequences, but he doesn’t actually want anyone to be hurt. He did, however, suggest that trespassers should be jailed and fined $20,000. I guess he assumes that everyone is taking home an MLB-level salary.
